What is the Glitter Run?

The Glitter Run is a first-of-its-kind 5K fun run/walk presented by The Los Angeles LGBT Center that ends with an outdoor Dazzling Dance Party in the heart of Hollywood.

Within view of iconic landmarks that include The Hollywood Sign, TCL Chinese Theatre, and The Capitol Records Building, you and thousands of other "color-filled" participants will traverse historic Hollywood Boulevard while passing through seven glitter stations. At these stations, volunteers will sprinkle different colors of non-toxic, washable, and fabulously vibrant glitter on the participants.

How do I get there?

How do I get there?

Leave early. Expect delays caused by closures on Hollywood Boulevard (between La Brea and Cahuenga) and Highland Avenue (between Hollywood and Sunset). Check out our street closure map for details.

Public Transit: We strongly recommend this transit option. The Glitter Run starting line and check-in area is conveniently located at the Hollywood & Highland Red Line Metro Station.

Ride Share: Before scheduling a car with a ride share app, please note that Hollywood Boulevard is going to be closed to through traffic. If you are coming to The Glitter Run from north of Hollywood Boulevard, we recommend you be dropped off at the Loews Hollywood Hotel. If you are coming to the Glitter Run from south of Hollywood Boulevard, we recommend you be dropped off at Hollywood High School; inform your driver that Highland is closed between Hollywood and Sunset. Remember when using a ride share app to avoid making a mess in the car, glitter or otherwise.

Parking Yourself: If you are driving, we highly encourage you to carpool. There is a paid lot (bring cash) located at Hollywood & Highland.

Should I arrive early?

Yes. You should plan to arrive early. Sign-In begins at 8 a.m.

What does my registration fee include?

When you check in at The Glitter Run, you will be given a bracelet. Don’t lose it. In addition to admission to the walk/run, this bracelet gets you:

  • Admission to The Dazzling Dance Party, featuring:
    • World-class DJ Joe Gauthreaux with opener DJ Woody Woodbeck
    • A complimentary cocktail designed by Tito’s Handmade Vodka or a non-alcoholic beverage
    • Access to LA’s famous food trucks, including Richeeze, Foodism, Baby’s Badass Burgers, and Recess (bring cash!)

    • Many more surprises
  • A Glitter Run T-shirt or tank top
  • A finisher’s medal
  • A Glitter Run towel
  • One bonus tube of glitter in your favorite color of the rainbow

What should I bring?

Our glitter sticks best to lotioned skin, so please consider wearing or bringing sunscreen for the run/walk. However, there will be no storage lockers, so do not bring anything along that you are worried about being glittered. Consider bringing a run-friendly bag with important items ziplocked inside. Finally, be sure to bring cash and ID for the food trucks and more at the post-run/walk Dazzling Dance Party.

Can I sign in and pick up my day-of-event packet early?

Yes. You can pick up your packet at any of the following times and locations:

  • Thursday, August 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Macy’s Beverly Center Men’s Store during The Glitter Run Kickoff Event (RSVP online)
  • Saturday, August 19 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at The Los Angeles LGBT Center McDonald/Wright Building, 1625 Schrader Boulevard (exact location within TBD)
  • Sunday, August 20 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Hollywood & Highland Red Line Metro Station before The Glitter Run

What should I wear?

You should wear comfortable running clothes, with special consideration paid to your shoes. Remember, the glitter sticks to your skin better than to your clothing. The more skin you show, the more glittery you will be!

Can I bring my pet?

We love all creatures large and small, but this is not a comfortable event for pets. We recommend you keep your pets at home.

How should I plan on finding my friends Sunday morning?

We highly recommend picking a meeting point near the starling line where you and your Team or group of friends can meet up. Consider, for example, having your friends meet you at a star along The Hollywood Walk of Fame! This site, helpful to tourists and locals alike, can help you find a star close to the starting line. Stars on Hollywood Boulevard between La Brea and Whitley are ideally located.

Can I get glittered before the run?

We encourage you to come to the run/walk covered in as much of your own glitter as you’d like. In addition, when you receive your one bonus tube of glitter in your favorite color of the rainbow at check-in, there will be a designated pre-glitter area where you can apply it.
